Respect - May 20, 2007
Who or what do you admire? Someone or something just popped into your mind with that question.
That humans have the virtue (or the fault) 'to admire' is well known. The real question should be WHY do you have that feeling about someone.
Have you ever thought especially about respect? Don't we automatically and unconsciously admire because we have respect? We don't have to even think about it; the feeling just happens when we see something beautiful for example, or when we know a person.
A simple chart as the one above, should remind some people of the definitions of respect and how to apply it in your daily life. Adults shouldn't need to be reminded of these items and they should adhere to the rules of respect faithfully.
There are some people truly believe they are above respecting anyone else "because they are the greatest, they are above reproach or they are in control, it's their job. They are to be respected and they don't have to give justifications or be responsible for their actions."
Hurrah for all of you who believe you deserve my 'respect' and just because. Thank the heavens above for your thoughts, they are so wrong. You have to EARN respect, others aren't supposed to give you respect. If you think you were 'born' with it, and lived just to control this moment; you're wrong.
You are nothing special.
Some mothers teach their offspring, as you see below. Virtues of their species are the truths taught and carried down through the next generations. However, if you think you're smart, try deceiving people all the time, you are a liar and get caught, you have made a mistake that never will be repaired. You could set the example.
People can loose respect for many reasons; being arrogant, selfish and flaunting your wealth. But, trying to deceive someone else is insulting their intelligence; they resent that more and will turn on you. For all those out there that have tried to control; show some respect if you want to receive. Even animals, which live more on instinct than humans will turn and bite.
It is too ignorant of the ones in control at the moment not to have learned to show respect, isn't it? When you hang around skunks too long you begin to stink like one.
