:oHi all, yes it is true I am back after a relaxing hiatus. With the passing of former President Ford I decided to return a week earlier then I had anticipated. So what's on my mind today? The man who never wanted to be President is getting a bad rap in some progressive circles. I know that anything Republican these days is looked upon a filth and something to be spat upon. What we have to remember about Gerald Ford is that has was not a conservative Republican in the way we think of them today. Ford was a Goldwater Republican who was disgusted and distressed by the actions of the Nixon administration. He was a man that was the last choice as a replacement for Spiro Agnew and was thrown into the Presidency in a matter of 72 hours. A President depends on his cabinet and his advisors to point him in the proper direction. It is important to note that many of the same people that are central to the Bush Crime Family today were in important advisory positions in the Ford White House. Gerald Ford made some bad choices during his brief administration but I feel that it is important to remember thaat he was not a neo-conservative. That should be considered before my fellow progressives spit on his grave and blame him for the decisions he made based on the counsel of the likes of Cheney and Rumsfeld. I hope you all will share your thoughts and comments either at the LJ site, the e-mail or right here on the forum. It feels great to be back- we have a lot of work to do to really make 2007 a happy new year! LJ link- pracuel.livejournal.com/112161.html
