Most of the debate in this forum has been about what religion stands for vs. what religion is actually doing today. We know the morals the bible teaches and I don't know anyone who thinks the ten commandments are all bad in theory. I do believe, however, that "religious" people can not be given extra credit and additional reasonable doubt against crimes because they claim to believe in a higher power. Those who do not should not be under a higher scrutiny for not revealing a single book that sums up the way they live their life.
The following report is just one of many in any paper nationwide that demonstrates religious leaders living the opposite of their sermons and further casting doubt against full "religious rights," blanket tax-cuts for all churches, and the ability of churches to fully oversee themselves.
Yes, religions have the constitutional right to practice however they please, but they still must abide to the laws and constitution of the country they practice in.
"Two priests accused of stealing millions"
DELRAY BEACH -- Two Roman Catholic priests stole millions in offerings and gifts made to their parish over several years, authorities said yesterday. Monsignor John Skehan, 79, who was pastor at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church for four decades, was arrested Wednesday. Prosecutors say he and the Rev. Francis Guinan stole $8.6 million from the church, using the money to buy property, vacations, and other assets. Guinan, who succeeded Skehan three years ago, has disappeared and was being sought, authorities said. He is alleged to have stolen an unspecified amount of money. Guinan had an "intimate relationship" with a former bookkeeper at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, where he previously worked, police said. (AP)
