Say "Enough" to Illegal Spying: Tell Congress to Stand Up for Checks and Balances Two dangerous proposals from Vice President thingy Cheney are now under consideration in the Senate and House Judiciary Committees. Supporters claim the Senate's Cheney-Specter bill and House's Cheney-Wilson bill are "surveillance we can live with," but the fact is these so-called compromises vastly expand the government's power to spy on innocent Americans, including new and currently illegal ways to spy on your home, your cell phone records and your emails. Before these bills leave committee and come to a vote this September, your senators and representatives need to hear the public outcry over the administration's reckless abuses of power. Contact your elected officials today, and remind them that our democracy is based on a system of checks and balances meant to stop exactly these kinds of overreaching grabs for executive authority. secure.aclu.org/site/Advocacy?pagename=homepage&id=475&page=UserAction
