Comrades, Channel 4 ( www.channel4.com/ ) put on a mock- documentary about the assassination of Dubbya, set in the future (a year from now) and the fallout that followed it. Set at least two years past the event (around 2009), it looked back on the deep unpopularity of Bush, with interviews of chief members of staff around him cut with "actual footage" of the events that day. Don't want to spoil it for you, because it may appear over there before long. Or maybe not - the very notion of this film caused a problem for Channel 4. US admin got very unhappy that such a thing even be considered. It's that old combining of religion and State again - with the president, or Dubbya in this instance, set up as the head of the entire order. If even criticising the president is seen as offensive to America, contemplating his assassination can only be sacrilegious. -GB

I seriously doubt that any network would play that here- hell it would probably be illegal to have a DVD copy of it given the current political climate in the states. GO CHANNEL4!! God I wish I lived in the UK!

Sounds like Rachael Maddow reviewed it on 26/10/06, and interviewed the director. The UK director was naive enough to be suprised that Americans would condemn the film without even having seen it! Without giving anything away, it really is worth watching if you get the chance.

Good review Glenn. I'd rather see the movie "Death of a President" and it's lies; than see "Queen" and it's bloody lies!

Im all for free speech,,,Hell I am free speech to its extremes probably more than most staff here. But what I dont like it the lack of understanding of why some Americans wouldnt be upset...If he died today or tomrrow wouldnt affect me one bit, but to me its like saying what if someone assassinated the Queen, or the Dalai Lama..people would garner somekind of feeling. Not to say thats a reason not to air such a movie in the US I think it should be, but I understand atleast why it would make some people usept.

Not to say thats a reason not to air such a movie in the US I think it should be, but I understand atleast why it would make some people usept. Well what if someone did want to make a fake documentary involving the Queen being assassinated? I don't understand why anybody would say, "What? Disgusting! How dare they!" - nor could I see anyone in Britain objecting. If you recall, The Godfather III featured the Pope being assassinated. Was there outrage from the Catholic Church? Of course not. They understood the difference between a work of fiction, and a call for the act itself. The only reason someone could object to this documentary (as they did, with great effect) is if they regard Dubbya as being utterly beyond even such suggested situations. As if US presidents had not been assassinated before. FOX, CNN, NPR etc. all refused to carry ads for it. That's going a lot further than merely finding it objectionable. That's deciding your viewers/listeners cannot even know about it. Please explain the thinking behind this. -GB
