Comrades, Lord Falconer - the head of the British legal system - has again given an uncompromising denouncement of "Camp Freedom*". "Democracies can only survive where judges have the power to protect the rights of the individual," he said. politics.guardian.co.uk/foreignaffairs/story/0,,1871630,00.html As reported by The Independent, in June he called the base a "recruiting agent" for terrorism, and described its existence as "intolerable and wrong". The Attorney General, Lord Goldsmith, has described it as "unacceptable" and called for its closure. Tony Blair has been more muted, calling it an "anomaly". -GB * The term "Camp Freedom" is my own, not Lord Falconer's.
