I'm traveling, as many of you know, and wanted to check in. I received a few letters in my box while on the road, and thought a couple of them would be of interest to you all. Featured in this post, is a letter that came in as a carbon copy, as it was sent to the President. This letter was written by a regular contributor to P&M, whose name and personal details have been removed at their request, for their protection. As many of you know, it is difficult for me as a non-christian to directly comment on the views of christians in this country, even though many of that persuasion are just as outraged about the Administration's Crimes as I. I do like to see this view addressed, however, as well as the views of members of other faiths, in order to accurately assess the sentiments of the overall American population.
This letter is a good example of what I've been hearing from many christians recently, who are distressed and appalled at what is being done in the name of their religion.
On a side-note, (And I'll throw this one in first because it's short) I received a confusing piece of mail that was unsigned. I thought perhaps the obvious confusion contained within it should be addressed. This letter said, simply:
"Hey Morrison, the US Constitution only applies to US
citizerns you idiot, no one eslse is subject to its protections."
UM... okay. Just for clarification, I have never stated that the United States Constitution applies to anyone outside the United States of America. I'm a bit confused as to where you might have drawn that conclusion, reader. If you would care to point it out to me I'll be glad to address the context of my statements, and the facts behind them.
Now then, on to today's featured Letter to the President:
"Dear Mr. President,
Your decision to push for a torture bill is wrong and will be the death of many innocent Americans.
Because you are making it legal to torture citizens of other countries, you are making it harder for Americans to travel with out fear.
Any nation that they go to could, if they enact similar laws puts American Citizens in danger because the government will have the right to detain our citizens and torture them and their children in order to get information or try to bargain with you for their lives. Since you don't value the lives of those who are not the 'have mores'. If you go to another country and your daughters are assaulted in order to get you to give up some information, they will be no more guilty of a crime as you would. You would not be able to try them even if they struck on their territory.
You are continuing the tradition of the Roman cohorts that legally tortured Jesus for no good reason. Jesus could not give them the answer that they wanted or do a magic trick or use violence as it would have proved that he was not serious about nonviolence or love of enemy.
Jesus should not have been harmed. Jesus was teaching nonviolence.
I pray that you wake up from your drug induced dream. Jesus did not die so that you could end God's creation. Jesus did not die so that you could ask like Herod and kill innocent people.
Consider that Jesus was a man and Constantine needed to make Jesus' teachings less potent. If Roman Catholics were real Christians they would have not supported Constantine, just like real Christians today do not support your empire. Jesus was killed because someone like you had the power to at least try to kill him. If he was God he would kill him, if we as not, Pilate squashed a pesky fly and his followers would flee.
Mr. President if you need to know about me, I was vetted by the FBI when I worked for (Company Name Removed) under your father's watch. I am also the (Personal Relationship Description Removed).
When dealing with suspected terrorists or anyone who is suspected to know any thing remember the rule of Jesus, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone". Unless Jesus himself shows up, the next best thing to do is to love him as Jesus love(d) you.
Make the world safer, pocket veto the bill or veto it outright.
Sincerely,
(P&M News Correspondent Name Removed)
